SECRETS TO OBTAINING GRANT AWARDS
1. Keep copies of your Determination Letter (DL) in a Safe Place for easy and prompt access.
Remember, the DL is a public document, as is the information contained in it.
2. Download a copy of CT-1 if you have never Registered with the California Registry of Trusts: http://ag.ca.gov/charities/forms.php
3. Order a copy of your IRS Form 1023 APPLICATION if you have lost it.
4. Only person(s) named in the STATEMENT OF INFORMATION filed with the Secretary of State of California may execute [sign] our agreement.
5. Once your organization has executed our agreement, follow the instructions of Rider#1
which includes your DOING the following:
a. attend all suggested seminars, classes and meetings,
b. visit all listed URL's
c. download all suggested documents and forms
d. follow our instructions from the phone, email, fax & correspondence.
6. Check the Secretary of State (SOS) website to learn if your CORPORATION has been suspended.
If so, contact the SOS and comply with their instructions to change your status to ACTIVE.
7. If the CORPORATION NAME for your branch office is NOT a tax-exempt nonprofit organization, do not use this name for grant seeking -- use the CORPORATION NAME that is tax-exempt.
8. If you, an individual, want to signed-up as a Contract Approved Vendor, you do NOT need to become a NonProfit Organization. Simply pay the $107.00 fee and offer your NAME, ADDRESS, CITY, STATE, ZIP CODE, PHONE NUMBER and your EIN number (or Social Security Number). We prefer you follow our instructions to obtain an EIN number because it offers greater identity theft protection, plus your IRS EIN number can be changed if you are under Identity Theft attack.
To order your EIN number: get the Internal Revenue Service Form SS-4 and complete it. Then, call the IRS at (800) 829-4933 to read the information from SS-4 to get your EIN number while you are on the telephone. The IRS will also mail your EIN number within a week or two. Your EIN number is valid the day you hear it. Write this number and place it in a place where you can find it. You may also store it in your iPhone, Cell phone, in your wallet or purse, inside your favorite inkpen, etc.
How to get your EIN number, Monday through Friday, from 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from the Business Specialty Tax Line (of the Internal Revenue Service).
